Shampoo Bars: The Discovery
How It Started
My hunt for an alternative to traditional liquid shampoo and conditioner began after a family trip to Florida. Twelve of us crammed into one rental house for an entire week. Just kidding, there was plenty of room and this didn't all start because of loving family chaos.
It really all started because I flew commercially and decided to only take a carry-on bag. ✈️ This was really my first trip flying commercially where I wouldn't be using the toiletries provided by the hotel or packing giant bottles of shampoo and conditioner in a checked bag. Since I was determined not to pay extra for a checked bag, I squeezed as much shampoo and conditioner as I could into those 3.4 ounce bottles.
The Problem
The problem was that this was a weeklong trip and I have long hair that I washed daily. There was no way 3.4 ounces of either bottle was going to last that whole week. I did my best to only use enough each day to get by hoping it would last. I remember one day, my mom used my shampoo on the kids—not mine, my cousin's kids—that I almost went into panic mode. I'm pretty sure I used her products that night so panic mode was aborted.
The Search
When I got home, the search began to find a better solution. That's when I came across shampoo and conditioner bars. I thought this was the weirdest thing. I mean, how do you get a bar to lather on your head? For some reason, I thought that had to hurt. But then I thought about soap bars and that works just fine so why not.
My Hair
My hair is long, straight and on the drier side especially in winter. When I wore a poofy jacket, my hair stood on end like every strand was Hermione Granger with the answer to a question. Ok, not that exaggerated, but it is staticky. It's been a lifelong struggle, even with liquid shampoos. I'd be in the bathroom splashing a little water on my hair to calm it down and keep things manageable.
Experimenting
I tried out a few different brands, and the results were all over the place. One brand made my hair look so greasy by the end of the day that I was practically counting down the hours until I could wash it. Brands with natural ingredients (which does seem to be most bar brands) claim you don’t need conditioner because of the natural ingredients, but my hair clearly disagreed. Other brands were a one-and-done—I just didn’t like them. None of them made my hair feel clean, soft, and smooth, which was what I was really after.
The Winner
When I discovered Viori's shampoo and conditioner bars, it was the solution I was looking for. 🎉 I sought out bars to make sure I'd have enough product for a long trip and eliminate a liquid, and found so much more. Beyond the travel convenience, Viori’s bars have become a staple in my everyday hair care routine. They leave my hair feeling clean, soft, and smooth, which is what I really wanted out of hair care products. Plus, they’ve significantly reduced the static in my hair, which is a huge win.
Now, I can't say my hair doesn't get staticky at all, but the change is so drastic that I almost don't notice the static I do get (which isn't much). I'm even at the point where I wash my hair every other night, though I'm not sure if it's because of the product or me finally getting brave and just doing it. What I do know is these products are now both my travel hair care routine and my regular hair care routine. Switching to Viori’s shampoo and conditioner bars was initially about solving a travel problem, but it ended up improving my hair care routine as a whole.
Travel Problem Solved
One of the best perks of using Viori's shampoo and conditioner bars is that they’re not considered liquids. No more squeezing products into tiny bottles or worrying about airport security regulations. ✈️🧴 Whether I'm flying domestically or internationally, I don't have to dig them out of my bag during security checks. It’s one less thing to worry about, making my travel experience much smoother. ✈️🧳
